Cake designer mother

A Powerpuff girl Melissa Conrad launching her career for making custom designed cakes for celebrations.
Five years ago, her daughter, Pam, asked for a Powerpuff Girls cake for her fifth birthday. Conrad decided to give it a go. She had a setback when the cake split as she turned it out of the pan. But she fixed everything up and ended up being quite pleased with the results.
She started out, by looking for clients who wanted birthday cakes.
Conrad said “I printed up fliers and mailed them to all of the daycares and asked them to post them,”
She is getting calls. She also starts studying the design of wedding cakes.
“If it’s not supported on the bottom, everything is going to crumble,” she said.
She enjoys the challenges of a wedding cake.
She has discovered her mother was right and that decorating cakes provides an outlet for that artistic impulse.
She created a birthday cake topped with bugs made out of a type of sugar that can be sculpted. For a cake celebration the wedding of a marine biologist, she made colorful fish swimming through coral and underwater plants all made of sugar.
“Everything isn’t always edible,” she said. “I’ll tell the customer, ‘This part you can’t eat.’” “The sugar work is what made that so much,”
Conrad cakes starts at about $30. After that, it just depends on client requirements. She has made a wedding cake cost $475.
